250MW Solar Thermal Plant

Scope
The Solar Dawn Project was a proposed 250 megawatt solar thermal power plant to be built near Chinchilla in South West Queensland by a consortium including AREVA Solar and Wind Prospect CWP.
Project Summary

The proposed power station required a supply of industrial water, and a gas supply to supplement solar energy to ensure power availability.

The client engaged Verbrec due to our ability to undertake both gas and water designs and our knowledge of connection points and ability to assist in negotiations.  Verbrec completed the FEED level design of the water supply pipeline, the gas pipeline and the associated facilities.  In addition to the design work, Verbrec supported the project with developing the EPC scope of work and assisting the client in selection of a nominated EPC contractor.

The proposed project was part of the Australian Government’s Solar Flagships Program, which aimed to provide the foundation for large-scale, grid-connected, solar power and to accelerate the commercialisation of solar power in Australia. But, unfortunately the project was not able to proceed.
